There is nothing like fresh flowers to brighten up a room or a person’s day. But living in North Idaho, the availability of fresh flowers in our gardens is limited to just a few months out of the year. That is where Sugarplum Floral & Greenhouse can help. Owners Tom and Anita Foust opened their business in September of 2007 and have been bringing sunshine to the lives of others for nearly a decade. “Sugarplum Floral & Greenhouse are actually two businesses in one,” explained the business’s manager, Shelly Kramer. “The florist part of the business is open year round.”
But Sugarplum Floral is much more than a florist. In addition to a large supply of flowers and indoor plants, they also have balloons, stuffed animals, baskets, containers, jewelry and an assortment of unique gift items that change with the season. Some of those unique gifts include locally made candles, handcrafted signs, Christmas ornaments, cards and even birdhouses.
When creating the perfect floral arrangement to meet the customer’s taste and budget, their designers are experts in their field. In fact, their head designer, Teri Wallace, has over 40 years of experience. They can help design not only the perfect floral arrangement for everyday enjoyment, but can also consult with clients and provide them with flowers for custom wedding and anniversary parties.
“We are happy to deliver for our customers’ convenience,” said Kramer adding that they also provide arrangements for funerals and other occasions to express love and concern.
With spring upon us, Sugarplum Floral & Greenhouse also carries everything one needs to get their garden ready for the season. With everything from gloves, fertilizer, pots, soil, sprays, tools and soil amendments, they are your go-to place for gardening.
“Seasonally, we offer bulbs, seeds, seed garlic, seed potatoes, onion starts, strawberry starts and asparagus roots,” shared Kramer.
A colorful sight, their greenhouses stock an extensive supply of herbs, annuals, vegetable starts, perennials, trees, fruit trees, berries, roses, shrubs and more.
“Our greenhouse staff plants over half of our flowers and vegetable starts from seed starting in January,” said Kramer. “And our hanging baskets are a particular favorite and sell quickly.”
With a staff of seven to maintain the greenhouse, they are kept busy working daily seeding, mixing soil, watering and transplanting literally thousands of plants.
Those at Sugarplum Floral and Greenhouse are grateful to the community for all the support they have shown them over the years, and enjoy in turn giving back to the community of Bonners Ferry.
