When is a great time to visit a hospital? When it’s just for fun and information! And that’s what the Boundary Community Hospital 2016 Fun Run & Health Fair is all about, happening Saturday, May 14 from 9am to noon.
“It’s a good time to explore all the things we offer to promote healthy living,” explains Lauren Kuczka of Marketing and Community Relations, “and it makes for a great family day, too.” This up-close look at the world of health support can also ease away the fear that sometimes surrounds the unknowns of the medical experience.
It’s amazing how many activities and adventures Boundary Community Hospital packs into this half-day embrace of the community they care for. Have you ever wanted to see a helicopter up close? The Life Flight aeromedical service is flying in at 9:30am and taking off at 11:30am. Explore a fire truck. Take a tour of the impressive MRI mobile truck interior.
Bring the family bikes in for a check-up by Far North Outfitters in Bonners Ferry. Kids love navigating the Bike Rodeo in the Boundary Community Clinic’s parking lot course and learning safe riding tips. Plus, they receive free helmets while supplies last, thanks to the Gladys E. Lungroise Advised Fund, the Idaho Community Grant’s program that supplied the grant.
Just for fitness and friendship, sign up for the Fun Run 3K, 5K or 10K. Pre-registration begins May 2 and entry forms are available on the hospital’s website [www.boundarycommunityhospital.org] or in the Outpatient Clinic lobby. Be among the first 70 to register and you’ll receive a free event T-shirt! (They will be available for sale on race day.) Registration and check-in are at 7am and the race begins at 8am. When you finish the course, cool down with a stroll through the local vendors offering health-related products and services.
Fairgoers can also pick up coupons for a free Hemoglobin A1C test ($64 value) or a free Lipid Profile Testing coupon ($95 value). There is an on-site blood pressure check and Accucheck instant blood sugar test. Kids enjoy testing themselves on the therapy course in the Rehabilitation Department.
“It’s a good time to check out the hospital’s convenient outpatient specialist clinics,” suggests Kuczka, “including our new April addition, the orthopedic clinic with Dr. Michael DiBenedetto.”
There will be opportunities to learn more about the hospital, diagnostic testing available through the medical laboratory, as well as x-rays, mammograms, and computerized tomography (CT), nutrition services, infection control, and the award-winning Extended Care Facility.
The Fair offers enjoyable ways to support Boundary Community Hospital. You can purchase tickets for numbered golf balls at The Fry Healthcare Foundation booth to enter in their Great Golf Ball Drop at their yearly tournament on June 10. Dropped from a high-end loader, whichever ball rolls closest to the hole wins its owner the grand prize – a large-screen TV! You can buy raffle tickets from the Hospital Auxiliary, purchase fresh hot popcorn or select flowers and plants for your garden to support the extended care facility activities.
“We love our community, and this is our day to let them discover and explore all the ways we are able to serve them,” says Kuczka. So ready, set, mark your calendars for Saturday May 14, 9am to noon, and bring the family to the fair – the Boundary Community Hospital 2016 Fun Run & Health Fair!
