JANI GONZALEZ
ABOUT JANI
After living in the Philadelphia area most of her life, Jani, along with her husband and two kids, moved to the Coeur d’Alene area in 2013 in search of a simpler life. Jani began as a contributing writer for Living Local 360, and we quickly recognized her talent as not only a writer but as an editor. Today she writes and edits for all Living Local 360’s publications.
Jani has a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in English and has written for a medical trade publication and also worked for a test assessment company that creates medical boards for practicing medicine.
Jani thoroughly enjoys her work with Living Local 360. “I love meeting people I would not otherwise meet, hearing their stories and being able to put it together for others to read and learn about,” said Jani.
She is grateful to her son and daughter for “putting up with two dreamer parents who up and left the East Coast.” Jani is helping her husband build a new home in Spirit Lake and shares it has presented a bit of a challenge at times. “Mother Nature is letting us know who’s boss, often putting our goals for building our house on hold,” said Jani of the weather in North Idaho.
Jani did not take long to integrate herself into the place she now calls home. She volunteers at her daughter’s school, organizing a food drive and Family Fun Night, and also works at a local school as a teacher’s aide in the special education department.
In her spare time Jani enjoys writing both nonfiction and fiction, baking anything with chocolate followed by a run to alleviate guilt. She also enjoys carving linoleum prints. “I love being creative and finding different ways to make art,” said Jani.
When asked what her favorite quote is, Jani replied with a quote from C.S. Lewis, “You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream.”
And the person she admires most? Her husband. “He keeps calm under pressure and has the ability to think both creatively and mechanically.”
