A new name with the same friendly atmosphere. By Patty Hutchens.
Don’t let the name fool you. The Rusty Moose Tavern and Grill may sound like a new place in town, but the owners, Jill and Dan Nystrom, are familiar to many. Jill owned Jill’s Café for nine years and in addition to changing the name, she and Dan have also expanded the restaurant.
In July they expanded into the adjoining space, previously known as The Sportsman’s Club, and the tavern side of the restaurant opened on September 5th. “We have a full service restaurant,” said Jill who adds that they keep five different beers on tap, have a wide variety of beer available by the bottle and also serve wine by the glass.
The couple has many exciting things planned for the Rusty Moose Tavern and Grill. In addition to introducing a ladies’ night each Wednesday, they plan on having Monday Night Football gatherings, serving a special prime rib on Fridays and a late night menu from 10pm to midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.
“We have much more to come in the fall and are also planning to host a couple of ski and board parties,” said Jill.
In an effort to accommodate their clientele, they serve lunch from 10am to 4pm and dinner from 4pm to 9pm. Their dinner menu has something for everyone including steaks, salmon, shrimp, a variety of appetizers from which to choose and if you are really hungry check out the Bull Burger!
If you are in search of a good cup of coffee, you can swing by and try The Rusty Moose’s own blend of espresso. They also serve ice cream and freshly made desserts and offer catering off premise, whether it’s for a company party, wedding or class reunion.
The hometown feel cannot be overlooked as Jill has lived in Bonners Ferry her entire life and Dan, while originally from Portland, has lived in Bonners Ferry since he was a young boy. When they are not busy running the restaurant, Dan enjoys the outdoors and wildlife of North Idaho while Jill enjoys spending time with their daughter Melissa and granddaughter Aurora. Jill is also an active member of the Bonners Ferry community and sits on the Board of Directors for the Boundary County Historical Society Museum.
They are both hard working and possess a lot of determination and that, coupled with their loyal patrons, have helped them be successful in their business. Stop in soon, whether it is for prime rib on Friday, ladies’ night on Wednesday, Monday night football, or just for a good meal. You will love what the Rusty Moose Tavern and Grill have to offer!
