The league started in 2006 with one team and 16 players. Over ten years later the Sandpoint YMCA Grid kids League is fielding teams from 3rd grade through 8th grade with over 150 youth players participating.
Seeing a need for a competitive, tackle football league a group of dads set out to find a local solution ending up joining ranks with Spokane's popular YMCA Grid Kids Football league and SYSA for the middle school division.
Starting with the 2017 fall season, every grade level will compete in the YMCA league in order to provide uniformity for rules and registration for all age levels.
The league was built to reach all youth at all levels and to be inclusive with a focus on fundamentals, team building, character development and competitive play. The consistent philosophy and dedication of hundreds of volunteers are what has made this league what it is today. Recently Sandpoint Junior Tackle has partnered with the local high school to build a fundamentally sound feeder program that will be mutually beneficial for everyone involved.
