Gallery North's 2016 Small Works Show Awards
On Sunday, March 6th, Gallery North held the reception and award ceremony for its annual invitational Small Works Show in Edmonds. The 2016 show includes more than 200 pieces of artwork hand-created by 77 artists from around the country. This exhibit provides collectors with an exceptional opportunity to view and purchase work by many fine local artists in one location. More than a hundred people attended the artists’ reception on Sunday to meet the artists, view and purchase the artwork, and enjoy refreshments at this event.
Well-respected local artists Robin Weiss and Molly Winton selected the Small Works Show award winners in the 2D and 3D categories respectively and presented the awards to the winning artists at Sunday’s reception. Robin Weiss, an award-winning painter and instructor, is renowned for his plein air oil paintings and has his work in collections internationally. Molly Winton, a widely recognized woodturner, is best known for her exquisitely crafted turned-wood vessels that she embellishes using pyrographic (wood burning) techniques. Her designs are often inspired by Native American and prehistoric art.

2nd Place - "Art Nouveau Girl” (Acrylic Painting) by Laura Ackerman
3rd Place - "Sliced Apple" (Watercolor Painting) by Janis Smith Honorable Mention - "Blue Trees" (Glass Beadwork) by Diane Naab

1st Place - "Hand-carved Maple Leaf Bowl"(Porcelain Clay) by Bernadette Crider
2nd Place – “Houndstooth Basket” (Japanese Delica Beaded Basket) by Julia Henry
3rd Place – “J-Pod Alki 36” (Naked Raku Stoneware) Barbara Goodfellow Childs Honorable Mention - "Bulb" (Clay) by James Miller

The Gallery North Small Works Show will be on display and artwork available for purchase through March 30. Gallery North has been in operation for more than 50 years, artist-run Gallery North is one of the longest running artists’ cooperative galleries in the nation.
