Beauty of the Northwest Exhibition
Every year Gallery North invites artists to submit their artwork to the annual Beauty of Northwest Exhibit. This
juried invitational exhibit provides artists with the opportunity to present their uniquely creative interpretations
of the splendor of our region. The seventh annual Beauty of the Northwest Exhibit opens August 1st at Gallery
North at 401 Main Street in downtown Edmonds. This year’s show features 71 works of art by 45 Northwest
artists. All artwork is available for purchase. The Beauty of the Northwest Exhibit is open to the public, seven
days a week, through August 31st.
Digital Canvas Northwest donated the prize for the poster contest once again this year. With so many
talented artists applying to the Beauty of the Northwest show, Everett artist, Dimitriy Gritsenko was thrilled
to be selected as the 2016 poster artist. His oil painting featured on the poster, titled “Late Arrival”, depicts
a ferry docked at sunset. “The last rays of warmth reflecting off the ferry, the cool shadows void of light, and
the orange sky inspired me to paint this scene from Mukilteo,” says Gritsenko.
Artist and author, Theresa Goesling, co-owner/instructor of “Make Every Day a Painting” International
Workshops and president of the Northwest Watercolor Society will jury the awards for the Beauty of the
Northwest exhibit. When selecting awards, Goesling says she “looks for originality and confidence with the
medium of choice. Strong design skills and a color story strengthen a painting’s appeal. Excellence in pulling
these elements together creates an award-winning work of art.”
Lauriel Sandstrom, Gallery North member and exhibit chair, suggests “The Beauty of the Northwest exhibit is the
perfect opportunity for those who collect and appreciate art - a fresh, creative look at our corner of the world by
many gifted local artists.”
The artists’ reception will be at Gallery North on Sunday, August 7 from 1 to 4pm. Awards will be presented at
2pm on August 7. A second reception will be held during the Edmonds Third Thursday Art Walk event on
August 18, from 5 to 8pm. The public is invited to both these free events to enjoy refreshments and meet many
of the artists represented in the show.
Gallery North will also participate in the Wine Walk, sponsored by Art Walk Edmonds, on Saturday, August 27 from 5-8pm. For Wine Walk information and tickets, visit www.ArtWalkEdmonds.com. This exhibit is open to the public daily 11am-5pm (10am-6pm Saturdays)
