It seems just about everywhere you go you can find an overpriced, semi-authentic Irish pub. The good ones are hard to find, but one of the better Irish pubs I’ve come across is right here in Coeur d’Alene. ‘Kelly’s Irish Pub & Grill’ can be found in the middle of Coeur d’Alene’s 4th Street corridor. The pub is small with seating for about fifty people. There are a few tables on the sidewalk patio and seating for about twelve at the bar. There isn’t a big Irish theme inside other than the standard old Irish paintings and posters on the walls, but it’s comfortable and not too over the top. There are a couple of really nice flat screens with sports always on. You’ll find a great selection of tap beers including Guinness and Smithwicks. Other handles feature local and regional beers.

The real reason people come here is for the food. The menu is huge and everything is reasonably priced. If you’re just looking for an appetizer, try the Irish nachos or the chicken wings. Prices run about $4 to $10. You can get authentic Irish dishes like Bangers and Mash, Guinness Stew, Shepherd’s Pie, and Irish meatloaf. If you’re not into traditional Irish fare, there’s a great selection of tasty sandwiches. You can order a half or a whole, but good luck finishing it. Try the Irish Dip, or my personal favorite, the ‘Donegal’. It’s grilled turkey breast, bacon and melted provolone cheese sandwich served on toasted sourdough bread with a cranberry spread. Kelly’s claims to have “The best Reuben this side of Ireland” and many agree. Once you’ve finished your meal, grab another pitcher and zigzag your way to the back of the restaurant. There you’ll find a nice pool table, a couple chairs, and a giant flat screen T.V.

If you don’t feel like cooking Sunday morning, stop by from 9am-2pm and try an omelette, meat and eggs or delicious French toast.

Check Kelly’s out on Facebook where you’ll find a schedule of live music including traditional Irish fiddlers.

Whether you are looking for a great lunch spot or a big hearty dinner, Kelly’s will not disappoint. The food is outstanding, with generous portions that are very affordable. You’re missing out on a great meal and a fun time if you skip a trip to Kelly’s.
