Bryce Catt grew up playing softball. She and her teammates have been together since they were 9 years old.
“They have become my best friends,” she said of her team.
The 18-year-old is a senior at Coeur d’Alene High School. She has lettered in academics and has had a 3.8 GPA during her high school years so far.
She will continue playing the sport she loves at North Idaho College (NIC) next year where she will be a utility player, meaning that she can play just about any position needed. She is considering studying dental hygiene or physical therapy while at NIC.
“I am very interested in the medical field because I enjoy helping others,” she said.
Bryce experienced the need for physical therapy after she injured her ankle sliding into home base. As a result, she had to do rehabilitation exercises every day and sit out the rest of the season. She made it through on the sidelines by staying positive along with the help of her teammates.
“I stayed positive remembering how hard I have worked to get to where I’m at and that giving up wasn’t an option,” she said.
Her outlook seems to stem from the words of encouragement from Travis Smith, a volunteer coach at CDA high school who has been with her team since they were 9 years old.
“[He] taught me to never to give up and to always give 110 percent,” Bryce said.
