Every year on March 17 the Irish and the Irish-at-heart across the world observe St. Patrick’s Day. What began as a religious feast day for the patron saint of Ireland has become an international festival celebrating Irish culture with parades, dancing, special foods and a whole lot of green. St. Patrick’s Day is the day where everyone can claim to be a little bit Irish, and in Coeur d’Alene we like to celebrate our heritage in style!
On March 12 there will be a grand parade through downtown Coeur d’Alene in celebration of our Irish heritage. This year’s annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade begins at 4pm at the corner of 8th and Sherman. The parade route will head west from Sherman towards Northwest Boulevard with the Coeur d'Alene Firefighters Pipes and Drums leading the way. The parade is a family friendly affair full of everything from Irish pipes and dancing to your lovable Irish wolfhound prancing down the street. So get dressed in your Irish best to join the fun!
Unable to find a bit of Irish flare? All Things Irish carries all the Irish and Celtic products you could dream of to help start your holiday off right. Be sure to get in early this month to find yourself a dandy kilt so that you can enter their “Best Legs In A Kilt” contest. This contest honors the man with the “Bonniest Knees” as it judges the wearer by the fashion of their kilt at the knee, appearance of their legs beneath the kilt, along with the many other fine kilt wearing qualities. It’s a contest of Celtic pride that is sure to bring many laughs and enjoyment to all.
St. Patrick’s Day also brings celebrations at several dining venues around the area. From green beer to Irish stew, numerous local bars, pub, and restaurants will be serving up delicious Irish fare to the weary traveler along with the sweet melodious tunes of Ireland. Kelly's Irish Pub & Grill is said to have plans for the whole week of green from different entertainers, such as the Coeur d'Alene Firefighters Pipes and Drums on Saturday the 12, to a traditional blessing by Father Tim, and there may even be a leprechaun zipping by for a quick visit.
St. Patrick’s Day is your chance to get out and celebrate your heritage so be sure to come downtown and enjoy the many festivities that are offered. And remember: If you're lucky enough to be Irish… You’re lucky enough!
